Venice of the East
While the family were visiting over the holidays we took the opportunity to visit Suzhou and Tongli, ancient water towns north of Shanghai. Both towns are known for their system of canals and bridges. Tongli is the more preserved of the towns and has been given the nickname, "Venice of the East". The kids had a great time on the kettle drums - maybe we have some musical talent after all.
Our day was capped off with a traditional trishaw "race" through the streets of Tongli with the most ancient trishaw drivers ever seen. Libby and Charley fared best (thank you Charley for tipping the scales in our favour) while some of our party had to get our and help push. Oops!
