Well, not quite midnight but we left Hanoi train station at 10.00pm on
th
e private Victoria Express train. Basically the train is owned by the Victoria group of hotels and has two or three carriages attached to the end of 
the regular train. You can only travel on the train if you stay in the hotel in Sapa. The kids were really excited although Shay dozed off before we even left Hanoi. Very pleasant - kinda like a poor man's Orient Express. Probably the closest I will ever come to that :-(
